A large ormolu cartel clock
In the Louis XV style, Early 20th century
Surmounted by a sunburst, with Cupid in a chariot with doves, the shaped case flanked by scrolling foliage, centred by a circular enamel dial inscribed Lenoir à Paris, the twin-train movement with countwheel strike on a bell, the backplate stamped H & F. PARIS, 5594-1876, the waisted lower case with pierced front panel and a group of Cupid and Psyche above an acanthus finial

Lot Essay

This cartel clock is a copy of the celebrated model made by Jacques Caffieri, circa 1750, now in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. It is illustrated in H. Ottomeyer and P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, Klinkhardt & Biermann, Munich, 1986, fig 2.5.11.
