This cheque dates from shortly after Morrison's notorious court case hearings of September 1970 when he answered charges of using profanities in public and indecent exposure. The case followed an incident at a concert in Miami. Whilst awaiting his sentencing on 30th October, Morrison spent his time drinking on the Sunset Strip, Los Angeles. Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin had both recently died and he allegedly said to companions at this time You're drinking with Number three.... Morrison was sentenced to six months imprisonment and a $500 fine - he remained free, however, on a $50,000 bond pending appeal.
