Lot Essay

David Forshaw first met The Beatles on 27th December, 1960 at the Litherland Town Hall ballroom in North Liverpool. Amazing as it may seem now, The Beatles were not particularly well known in North Liverpool at this time, and a late booking meant their appearance was not fully advertised, consequently few people were aware of who they were. In The Complete Beatles Chronicle, Mark Lewisohn's listing for 27th December, 1960 comments...If any one live performance in the Beatles' career could be described as the turning point, it would be this... Forshaw, impressed by the group's impact on the audience went backstage, introduced himself, and promptly booked them for three future appearances at his venue, St. John's Hall, Bootle, known as The Blue Penguin Club.
Two handbills and one ticket for the same concert have been sold at auction previously, however the ticket and handbill offered here are the last from David Forshaw's collection.
