A SYRIAN HAEMATITE CYLINDER SEAL
CIRCA 1850-1700 B.C.
Showing a standing nude Lahmu hero, his face framed by curls and two streams of water flowing from his shoulders, being approached by two worshippers, each with one hand raised in supplication, the field filled with an ankh-sign, a fish, a crescent and a solar-crescent, the terminal scene with a recumbent horned quadruped, surmounted by a guilloche and a seated winged griffin, 5/8 in. (1.6 cm.) high; a West Persian pink and white veined agate cylinder seal showing a seated deity being approached by a worshipper, a Kassite cross between them, below are vessels and a horned animal head, a rhomb behind the worshipper, a Babylonian four-line cuneiform inscription reads "May [the owner] of this seal, at the command of Marduk, have access to the palace, [have] a god and a protecting angel", circa 1400-1000 B.C., 1 1/8 in. (2.9 cm.) high; and a Neo-Assyrian cornelian cylinder seal showing an astral goddess seated on a high-backed throne, the back decorated with knobs, with one hand raised, the other holding a circlet, before her kneels a worshipper with one hand raised, the other extended with palm facing upwards, between them is a fire altar, the terminal with crescent moon, the spade of Marduk, and seven dots representing the Pleiades, circa 900-750 B.C., 1 in.
