Specialist note

These cowls were worn over the hair with the woven red band placed on the forehead, the cord attaching it in place under the hair at the nape of the neck, cf. A. Stauffer, Textiles d'Egypte de la collection Bouvier, Museé d'art et d'histoire, Fribourg, Bern, 1991, pp. 223-229, no. 116 for the type.
