Lot Essay

A sharply angled view of the façade showing the repeat detail of the lattice windows, the decoration of the frieze and the crenellations. It has been said that these crenellations were thought to resemble human figures linking hands as a symbol of solidarity, and this particular design was therefore never repeated. This daguerreotype also highlights the state of disrepair of both the frieze and the stucco finish on the walls.
