Lot Essay

A detail of the entablature from the columns shown in the previous photograph. In this example Girault de Prangey uses his panoramic format to exclude all else and concentrate solely on the richly carved Corinthian capitals and the deeply cut detailing of the entablature. In so doing he creates an unusually tight detail, quite unknown in photography at this time.
