Lot Essay

A simple arched niche, identified as also being from the great court of the Temple of Jupiter. In contrast with the fine detailing in smooth masonry in the photograph in the previous lot it seems very primitive, this impression accentuated by the grasses sprouting from the surface and the weathered stones above.
