Lot Essay

The first album includes the source of the Ganges, the Simla hills in winter and summer, the Manirung Pass, Spiti river bridge, Mussacks for Crossing the Beas below Bjoura, Dal lake and river scenes in Srinagar, and the Golden Temple of Amritsar. Also including group portraits of Afghan men; the Raja of Kashmir, his son and other notables; Tibetans (2); and an evocative one titled Natives of Chamba (illustrated). The second album includes a scene of village life in Bengal, various views in Delhi, the Great Eastern Hotel and Hugli river in Calcutta, and harbour and town hall in Bombay. Portraits of note include Mrs. Bourne under Banyan trees, the Nepalese ruler Jung Bahadur, three wives and son of Bahadur, and the Maharaja of Gwalior with other notables. This album also contains two views of Malta.
