Hermitage, La Chapelle--Vintage 1989
Rhône. Domaine-bottled: Paul Jaboulet Aîné
Not in original wooden case
Tasing note: Several notes, first in 1991: distinctive nose and taste; rich, tannic. Next, in 1998, at the Hollywood Wine Society's Jaboulet seminar: fine, deep; low-keyed but crisp fruit, harmonious; very sweet (the sweetest in the range), excellent flavour, complete and tannic. More recently, in magnums: still fairly intense but maturing; gorgeous outpouring of bouquet; warm, rich - yet still struggling to harmonise, so much going on. Fairly sweet, full-flavoured, very good fruit, excellent tannin and acidity. Last noted at Stephen Kaplan's wine event in Chicago, April 2000 *****. M.B.
