Fonseca--Vintage 1983
Tasting note: Nine notes. Predictably opaque in 1985; a lot of vinosity and flesh; sweet, full, fruity. In 1990 plummy; a hefty rich bouquet and flavour of prunes and figs. Very sweet, fairly powerful, rather hard yet elegant. Wedged between the 1980 and 1985 at a Mentzendorf tasting it seemed to pursue a middle course in colour and sweetness. Now fully mature, lightish, open-rimmed, east and pleasing. Last noted at a book launch tasting in Germany, April 1998 **** Drink now to 2010. M.B.
