Château Latour--Vintage 1945
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Tasting note: A great wine. Surely one of the best ever Latours. Full-bodied, rich, complete, silky tannins, complex, great length. Five stars. MB.
Tasting note: Frost in May greatly reduced the harvest. The growing season was hot and dry, then the vintage weather was torrid. Vinifications were difficult (volatile acidity climbed) with few means to control temperatures. Deep in colour and still purple-tinged, this famous wine has opulent aromas which include cedar, eucalyptus and cinnamon. The palate is amazingly rich and concentrated. The massive tannins are by no means fully softened, the finish being chocolatey, long and spectacular. AH.
