Domaine de Trévallon--Vintage 1990
Provence. Domaine-bottled: Eloi Durbach
In original cartons

Domaine de Trévallon is situated in the region of Les Baux near Saint-Rémy de Provence. It shot into prominence through the genius of Eloi Dürbach, the godson of Picasso, a friend and contemporary of Eloi's father. In 1974 Eloi gave up architecture to plant vines on his family's estate.
The cépage mix is now roughly 50-50, Cabernet-Sauvignon (from Château de Vignelaure) and Syrah (from Château Rayas). Yields are low, indigenous yeasts are used and the wine is matured for 18 months in small oak casks. It is unfined and unfiltered.
It is not often that I quote my friend Robert Parker, Jr but in his book on Rhone and Provence he wrote 'One of the greatest discoveries in my life has been the wine made at the Domaine de Trévallon'. A robust but complex, deeply coloured wine with a cult following
Tasting note: When first noted (in 1992) it was virtually opaque, immature of course but with good fruit aromas and fairly sweet. Later its colour was a rich ruby. A lovely wine with lots of grip and with more time in hand. October 1998. M.B.
