Lot Essay

The medal shown in this picture is the Queen's South Africa Medal, a campaign medal awarded for service in the Boer War up to the time of Queen Victoria's death in January 1901. The four clasps on the medal would have been awarded for different battles during the war (in total, there were twenty-six clasps for this type of medal).
