A RIVETING ARRAY OF RED BORDEAUX

The question here is, where does one start? From Lafite 1961 in magnum to Pétrus 1990, from Palmer 1961 to l'Angélus 1990, it's here, it's in quantity and it represents the best there is in red Bordeaux.

THE TWO ORIGINAL PAUILLAC FIRST GROWTHS

LAFITE

For over two centuries Christie's have been selling the great wines of Château Lafite. Indeed it is Christie's who in 1985, sold a bottle of the 1787 Château Lafite engraved for the then US President to be, Thomas Jefferson. Sold in London for 105,000 pounds it is still the most expensive bottle of wine ever to be sold at auction.

Listed first in the 1855 classification of Médoc Châteaux, Lafite is generally regarded as one of, if not the most prestigous wines in the region.

Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1961
Pauillac, 1er cru classé
Levels: very top shoulder or better, lightly bin-soiled labels
...An attractive, rich, convincing colour with perfect gradation from the bowl of the glass to its rim. It was poured and tasted at 8pm, ripeness and bottle age noted. Exactly 30 minutes later it had gained complexity and a rich, spicy "biscuity" bouquet. It had the sweetness of fully ripe grapes and alcohol, a mouthfilling falvour, very good tannins and acidity. Complete...Most recently noted at a pre-sale tasting in New York, May 1999. At best ***** Will keep. Give it time to breathe. MB, Vintage Wine
