A LOUIS XVI ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX SET WITH AN ENAMEL MINIATURE
by Charles-Alexandre Bouillerot (fl. 1769-1793), marked, Paris, 1777/1778, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache 1774-1780, later struck with two French post-1864 import marks
Oval box, the cover, side and base panels with translucent plum-coloured enamel on an engine-turned vertical coin pattern, within white enamelled beaded borders, the cover centred with an oval enamel plaque painted en grisaille with an apotheosis of King Louis XVI of France within a white enamelled bead border, the frosted gold borders enamelled with translucent green husks and leaves and with red berries and ovolos, the side pilasters similarly adorned and hung with translucent red enamelled drapery and surmounted by similarly enamelled vases
