AN ATTIC RED-FIGURED KYLIX

The tondo with a nude athlete leaning forward on a walking stick crutched under his left arm, his arm raised with the hand open, his right arm bent acutely, his hand at his rib cage, his left leg bent, with the heel of his left foot raised, his weight on the right leg, his short curly hair rendered with a series of raised dots along the outer edge and a short fringe below, a kline behind him, a sponge, an aryballos, and a strigil hanging from a hook in the field before him, the scene enclosed within a band of meander; one side of the exterior with a young groom beside his horse, both in profile to the left, the groom with a staff in one hand, raising his right hand in the air; the other side with a horse in profile to the right beside a fluted Doric column, each side on a short groundline; the cup with a continuous profile but for a slight reserved step on the foot
