A ROMAN MARBLE RELIEF FRAGMENT
Circa 2nd Century A.D.
Possibly from a sarcophagus, sculpted in high relief, preserving a bust of a woman in profile to the right, leaning forward with her mantle billowing with three folds over her head, her wavy hair parted at the center and pulled back in a band and up into a chignon at the back, her gaze focused down and to the right, her nostrils and right pupil drilled, her torso bare, "Venus" lines visible along her neck, with her right arm extended up behind, the composition below a thick overhanging border
