Mark of John Carter, London, 1775, overstriking Sheffield maker's mark and hallmarks
Each baluster form on circular pedestal foot, with guilloche and laurel borders, repoussé and chased with husking, acanthus, urns, ram's masks and laurel garlands, the urn-shaped socket with detachable circular nozzle with guilloche border, the bases and nozzles each engraved with a crest, marked on foot-rim and three nozzles, the bases filled

The crest is that of Long, as granted to Thomas Long of Trowbridge, co. Wiltshire in 1561. (4)
