Lot Essay

Cooper painted small works of this description on his return to England from Brussels in the spring of 1831. The first was sold to his fellow artist Stephen Catterson Smith; the second 'to a person at Ackermann's' (My Life, 2 vols., 1890; vol. 1, p. 216). Both were priced at £2.
