A Derby candlestick figure
Circa 1765
Modelled as a Roman centurion, probably emblematic of Mars, standing in full armour of plumed helmet, scaled cuirass, short skirt and sandals, his shield beside him, one hand on the hilt of his sword, a flowering tree forming the support of the candlestick behind him, on a scroll-moulded base (candlestick nozzle and drip-pan lacking)
