A RARE GRISAILLE AND GILT 'NAVIGATION' PLATE
CIRCA 1785
With a grisaille medallion at the centre depicting a female figure representing Navigation, standing on a quayside leaning on a rudder and holding a sextant, a boy mooring his boat behind her, the winds blowing towards her from the clouds, inscribed ODE ZEEVAART O, the border with a du Paquier-style border heightened in gilt, rim crack
9 1/8 in. (23.2 cm.) diam.
