Siamo grati al Professor Lino Moretti che, sulla base di fotografie in bianco e nero, ha avanzato l'attribuzione del presente dipinto a Francesco Monti, esponente del neo-manierismo emiliano del XVIII secolo, riferendolo al suo periodo bolognese, entro il 1738, anno in cui il pittore si trasferì a Brescia.
