Lot Essay

These parrots are closely related to a pair in the musée du Louvre, Paris illustrated in P. Verlet, Les Bronzes Dorés Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1987, p.26, fig.12. These latter parrots originally formed part of the collection of ormolu-mounted Chinese porcelain 'à fond bleu-turquoise' formed by Marie-Antoinette.
