AN ITALIAN ORMOLU-MOUNTED AMARANTH AND EBONISED CLOCK AND BAROMETER
Late 18th Century and altered, the green silk-velvet plinth supplied by Pierre Delbée of Maison Jansen, Paris, circa 1965
Of column form, the removable glass cylinder enclosing an ebonised shaft inscribed Pollici Francesi Pollici Inglesi Modesta Chevola, supported on a laurel collar, the stepped square base with pearled border and raised panel to the front mounted with an associated clock, the circular glazed enamelled dial with Arabic numerals, the movement signed Berthoud, on a pearl-wrapped square stepped plinth, on a later close-nailed green silk-velvet covered plinth almost certainly by Maison Jansen, with square top above two open shelves, on a stepped spreading plinth
