La medaglia, eseguita nel 1703, probabilmente a Roma, dove il medaglista Giuseppe Ortolani era attivo dal 1689, celebrava la proclamazione a re di Spagna, con il nome di Carlo III, dell'arciduca Carlo d'Asburgo.
