Lot Essay

Mme Wanda de Guébriant has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work.

The friendship between Tériade and Angèle Lamotte dated back to their days together in Greece. In 1937, when Tériade was granted the financing from an American magazine director to create, in bi-lingual format, 'the most beautiful journal in the world', it was Angèle whom he chose to be by his side. His collaboratrice from the very first days of Verve, Angèle's contributions to the publication were far-reaching. Following her untimely death, she was succeeded by her sister Marguerite Lang. Conceived in her memory, the present work was reproduced in the fourth volume of Verve.
