When 18 years old Dick Zwier started his education at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. Hendrik Jan Wolter was his free painting teacher. Later he chose lessons monumental art from Der Blaue Reiter artist Heinrich Campendonk. Dick Zwier has called himself a 'modern naturalist'. He created his own reduced reality. The present lots all date from the 70's and 80's by which time he had left the naturalistic approach and continued to make more and more fixed and clear compositions. From about 1985 he reverted to making pictures of roofs, as can be seen in lots 434 and 435. Zwier documented his works conscientiously, which can be recognised in the present lots which have been signed, dated and titled extensively.
