The mahogany horizon plate is supported on three turned and tapering legs. It is applied with a hand-coloured engraved paper showing compass directions, days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac, and degrees in four quadrants. The central section shows a sunburst, some stars and portions of the milky way on a green ground. The tellurion attachment comprises a brass Sunball connected via five gear wheels to an ivory Earth ball with ecliptic, equatorial, tropic and polar circles incised. The Earth has a brass twilight zone indicator above and is mounted at the correct angle over a steel moon phase disc, with a small ivory moon ball in orbit. A pointer at the other end reads off the scale. The orrery attachment comrises a brass Sunball with seven brass arms for the ivory planet balls, the Earth similarly incised and the rest, up to Uranus half painted black. Ivory moon balls are shown for the Earth (1), Jupiter (4), Saturn (6 of 7, plus rings) and Uranus (6). The painted case has two brass hooks and eyes.
