Lot Essay

The table, with columnar legs and serpentined candlestick-corners, has its top parquetried in 'Roman' fashion with a ribbon-banded and mosaiced tablet of fine marble-figured veneer quarter-cut and rayed from the centre.
A table, possibly its pair, was sold in the Michael Lipitch sale, Sotheby's London, 22 May 1998, lot 35. Another table of this pattern from Pyrford Court, Surrey, was sold in these Rooms, 4 June 1968, lot 108.
