An unusual French surveyor's level
Richter à Paris. Late 18th/early 19th Century
The 10¾-inch (27.3cm.) long telescope with a sight at either end, raised on a compass joint over the horizontal circle with two degree scales, one in four quadrants, with two index arms with verniers, clamp and tangent screw fine adjustment, a glazed compass mounted beneath with sixteen compass points, iron needle and clamp, raised on two flat brass supports incoporating a sprung worm gear adjustment and clamp, terminating in a ball and socket joint to a brass display stand
