An English 2¾-inch diameter terrestrial pocket globe
Unsigned, but after Herman Moll. Late 18th Century
Entitled A Correct GLOBE with the new Discoveries, made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores and two polar calottes, the equatorial graduated in degrees and hours, the meridian at 30°W of Greenwich graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the oceans showing a wind rose in the southern Indian Ocean, various trade wind arrows and the tracks of Cook's 1760 voyage, the Antarctic with no land shown, a small piece of coastline south of the Cape of Good Hope labelled Cape Circumcision, the continents delicately shaded and outlined in green, pink, yellow and orange and showing rivers, cities and some mountains and forests in pictorial relief, Australia labelled NEW HOLLAND and showing Tasmania as a promontory labelled Dimen's Land, Africa showing NEGROLAND and Coast of the Cafers, northern America labelled Parts Unknown and with no northern coastline, contained in the original fishskin-covered spherical wooden case, the interior laid with two sets of twelve hand-coloured engraved celestial gores and two polar calottes laid to the celestial poles A Correct Globe with y.e New Cons:tellations of Dr Halley & c., the equatorial and equinoctial colure graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month with sigils but unnumbered, the stars shown in a table to six orders of magnitude, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments, the edges of the case painted red, with three brass hooks and eyes
