A GEORGIAN OFFICER'S DRESS SWORD
Circa 1800-15
A sword generally in 1796 Light Cavalry style, with wide curved fullered blade, possibly originally blued and gilt (stained and with significant areas of pitting), bearing remains of 'GR' cypher and other decoration, good gilt-brass stirrup hilt with plain langets, ridged ivory grip and backstrap (similar to that of an infantry officer's 1803 pattern sword) incorporating a lion's head, in its fine and ornate gilt-copper scabbard with leather inserts to both sides, and two suspension-rings (locket insecure)
