AN ENGLISH SMALL-SWORD WITH CUT-STEEL HILT
Circa 1780
With tapering blade of hollow triangular section (some surface rust and pitting) etched at the forte with scrollwork, the hilt (some surface rust) with oval shell formed like the star of an Order within a slender frame, decorated thoughout with cut-steel studs, and with wooden grip bound with steel ribbon alternately set with gilt and cut-steel studs and separated by strands of twisted silver wire, in its original vellum-covered scabbard with plain steel chape and mouth-locket, the latter with a single suspension-ring
