A BRITISH HEAVY CAVALRY OFFICER'S SWORD
Circa 1780
With associated hollow-ground single-edged blade double-edged towards the point, and etched with running foliated tendrils on each side of the forte, the steel hilt comprising double-shell of radiating bars supporting an upturned fan-shaped feature at the front linked to a slender knuckle-guard and a half-basket of three curved bars on the inside, the bars partly decorated with close-set faceted mouldings, short lobe-shaped rear quillon, associated globular faceted pommel with prominent button, wire-bound wooden grip, and leather liner (damaged)
