Lot Essay

This cupboard has a decorative thirteen-pane glazed door in the upper section, behind which crockery could be displayed and a cupboard below to store food or kitchen utensils. The small proportions of the cupboard suggests the size of the home it was made for, where storage and display space was at a premium. The construction details of this piece clearly indicate West Country origins, including the rounded bead on the outer vertical edges of the front and a simple cornice with a single flat board above and a separate simple moulding below to give the impression of a larger composite cornice.
