Lot Essay

The present drawing is a study for the central figures in the painted ceiling in the lecture theatre apse at the Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington. The painting was not executed (see J.Physick's, The Victoria and Albert Museum, Oxford, 1982, pl. xxx.)
