Lot Essay

Romain de Tirtoff who called himself Ertè was one of the most celebrated fashion and stage designers of the Twentieth Century. He contributed fashion illustrations for Harper's Bazaar for 22 years, and is perhaps best remembered for the costume and stage designs for the Folies-Bergère in Paris and George White's 'Scandals in New York'.
