A Model Of The Tugboat Brooklyn

One of the most popular and famous of the New York Harbor tugboats. The hull of the model is preformed and is painted with black topsides and a green bottom. The deck of the model is planked in basswood. The main deck structure is painted red and is fitted with brass portholes, mahogany doors and brass hand rails. The wheelhouse is of mahogany and is fitted with name boards, running lights, cabin top eagle and other details. The model is fitted with numerous other details including deck plates, flags, bollards, fire buckets, ladders, cleats, etc. The model is mounted an a pair of brass pedestals and displayed in a glass case with a mahogany base and a brass frame.

Lot Essay

The Brooklyn, built in 1910, was a steam powered, New York railroad tug. She was built in 1910-1911 by Wm. Cramp & Sons of Philadelphia. The Brooklyn was built for the New York Dock Company and spent her entire 50-year career shuttling barges loaded with railroad cars back and forth across New York Harbor. Its original steam powerplant lasted throughout its entire time in service.
