Lot Essay

This bronze is a reduction of the famous Great Buddha at Kamakura, Japan, which was dedicated in 1252. The 13 metre tall bronze was originally housed in a wooden temple complex until 1495 when it was swept away by a tsunami leaving the Buddha exposed to the elements, where it remains today
