Lot Essay

"I first saw one of Stout's tiny graphite drawings at a group show at the ICA in Boston. I thought it as nearly perfect as possible. Although I had always only bought new work, I was determined to get one. This was the first older work I bought and it led to many explorations into works from the '40s and '50s."
