1953 CHRYSLER NEW YORKER DELUXE CONVERTIBLE

For 1953 Chrysler's New Yorker Deluxe series was the top-of-the-line model. There were only 950 convertibles produced in this configuration, thereby making it the rarest and most coveted of all the 1953 Chryslers. These cars were known as high quality, solidly built, well engineered automobiles. The really big news for these early 50s Chryslers was naturally the Hemi engine. The hemispherical combustion chambers offered exceptionally good volumetric efficiency for truly outstanding performance. The Chrysler Hemi had a lower compression ratio than some of the non-Hemi engines of similar displacement and could use a lower octane fuel, yet it was capable of producing as much or more horsepower than a conventional engine that had more cubic inches. In the 1951 Mexican Road Race a Chrysler won the stock car class with this same engine and placed third overall behind two Ferraris.
The 1953 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe Convertible, as shown here, is an excellent example of a frame-up restored automobile. This stunning convertible presents a thorough restoration with its glistening front grille, beautiful chrome and brightwork accented by a full and correct leather interior. The panelwork is all straight and the paintwork is unmarked. The leather trimmed seats are burgundy with cream inserts which match the dashboard top and trim. The car is complete with a host of amenities such as power windows, power steering, power brakes, radio, heater, wire wheels, whiteband tires and PowerFlite transmission.
This rare New Yorker Convertible should make a fine addition to any collector's showroom.
