The MG TC Midget was an exquisitely shaped and detailed miniature. With its lengthy narrow bonnet, slender tires and with beam axles all round, it was the final flowering of a school of sporting car design that began perhaps in 1914 with the likes of the Grand Prix Peugeot. The TC's successor, the chunky 1954 MG TD Midget, was an entirely different matter and looked forward to the splendid sporting cars of the 1950s. It was endowed with an excellent independent front suspension system, which dictated a much more substantial chassis frame and wider section tires on smaller diameter wheels. The body offered more space, the engine ultimately more power. The little MG factory in Abingdon, also tasked with making Riley saloons and dropheads and later the big Austin Healey roasters, really felt it could not be expected to produce variants on the MG Midget theme and resisted all overtures to do so.

This MG has been fully restored at some time and looks really lovely with smart bright red paintwork and full tan leather trim to the interior. The TD has also been cleverly upgraded with a 1963 MGB four cylinder motor and, we believe, transmission, thereby keeping the earlier car's period Fifties looks but endowing it with better performance. The car also benefits from four wheel disc brakes. Numerous other 'extras' include side window curtains, full tonneau cover, fold flat windscreen with twin aero screens, headlight stone guards, spare wheel cover, chrome luggage rack, painted wire wheels with Dunlop radial tires and a Mota-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel.

This MG should be a delight to drive and will no doubt surprise more modern machines with its upgraded engine specification which should allow for a sparkling performance all round.
