Lot Essay

The painted ivory miniatures depict various Mughal monuments such as the Qutb Minar, Jama Masjid, Moti Masjid, Taj Mahal, Akbar's tomb, and Humayun's tomb. Compare to a similar boxes in A. Jaffer, Furniture from British India and Ceylon, 2001, cat. no. 98, p. 276, and in M. Archer, Company Paintings: Indian Paintings of the British Period, 1992, pp. 225-27.
