Of baluster shape with short neck and everted rim, covered with a finely crackled glaze over a white slip, the flat base and interior covered with a white slip, the domed cover with bud finial similarly glazed

Lot Essay

A similar jar and cover is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated by Prodan, The Art of the T'ang Potter, 1961, no. 100; and another was included in the exhibition, Early Chinese ceramics and works of art, Eskenazi, London, 1974, pl. 14. Several jars without covers are illustrated in Mayuyama, Seventy Years, vol. 1, Tokyo, 1976, p. 83, figs. 219-22.

The result of Oxford Authentication Ltd thermoluminescence test no. C102e60 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
