What better way to start the Latour section than with a magnum of the outstanding 1929. Château Latour with its unique terrior produces wines that in terms of cellaring potential are almost immortal and are the definition of power and grace. The large format section also features some classic vintages too, Lots 243 - 311.

Level: upper shoulder; lightly bin-soiled label
Superlative. Softer and more amenable than the '28. Sixteen notes, almost all 5 stars, dating from December 1955.Always deeply coloured, its bouquet variously described - mainly inadequately - as rich but restrained old cedar, spicy (eucalyptus once again, cloves and sage), 'medicinal' Pauillac and so forth...More recently a perfect magnum in a 'flight' of Latours at a Rodenstock weekend.
