A REMARKABLE COMPILATION OF EUROPE'S FINEST AND RAREST
Property of a Long-Time Connoisseur of Truely Fine & Rare Wines

Recently removed by Christie's staff from a purpose built, underground home storage with temperature & humidity control

It is our great pleasure to be working with this consignor again. After a smashing success in our March 2003 Los Angeles sale he has kindly extricated more gems from his treasure trove.

The following selection spans the 20th Century's greatest vintages of Europe's finest terroir. Highlights as you will see start with rare, mature Champagne, followed next by 1928 Latour, '47 La Mission Haut Brion, continuing with '47, '48 & '61 Petrus! The wealth of Burgundy starts with the incomparable 1962 Romanée Conti, continues on with a truely rare, pristine magnum of de Vogüé's 1945 Musigny, Vieilles Vignes and rounds out with Ramonet's 1985 Montrachet. Highlights from the Rhône, Germany and Italy include in order 1937 & '61 Hermitage, La Chapelle, 1971/'76 Auslese, BA, TBA & Eiswein, and an original carton of Giacomo Conterno's 1968 Barolo, Monfortino, Riserva Speciale.

It is our great pleasure to present such rarities at auction.

Selected wine from this collection will be made available at the Pre-sale tasting for your inspection.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As to be expected with cool, damp storage conditions many of the bottles and labels have, to some degree, been damp affected and bin soiled. Where necessary capsules have been cut to verify authenticity. Those reflecting said conditon have been noted in the lot description.

With regard to Burgundy ullage: The condition and drinkability of Burgundy is less affected by ullage than its equivalent form Bordeaux. For example, a 5 to 7cm ullage in a 30 year-old Burgundy can be considered normal, indeed good for age; 3.5 to 4cm excellent for age, even 7cm rarely a risk.
