Two Ivory Netsuke, a Staghorn Netsuke and a Wood Netsuke**
Edo period (19th century)
The first carved as a retainer dressed in formal costume and tall hat seated holding a standard; the second as a catfish, the long slender tail curling to the left at the tip, eyes inlaid in dark horn, the third, a bird wrapped in a cloth and bound at the feet, pulling at the edge of the cloth with its beak trying to free itself; the third as a monkey and octopus seated facing each other, the monkey grasping one of the octopus' arms
