Arita Ware, Edo period (18th century)
Seated on a high platform moulded as upright bamboo logs lashed together with rope and painted in black and green enamels with bamboo leaves, the feathers of the cockerel moulded in overlapping circles on the breast and lower body and in longer, tapered lozenges on the neck and back, these painted in enamels of red, black and gilt which repeat on the long, looped tail feathers, crest and wattles and a large circle on the breast also red enamel, the open mouth gilt; high base hollow
