Lot Essay

A copy of William Daniell's aquatint, plate 9 from the set of ten Views of Prince of Wales Island (1821) after the set of ten pictures now in the Penang Museum attributed to Captain Robert Smith (1787-1873). For a similar copy of this plate from Daniell's Views attributed to Sun Qua (and on which the present attribution is based) see L.C. Keat, Penang Views 1770-1860, Singapore, 1986, p.111 and pl.64.
